Assistant Deputy Minister of Early Learning Division Visits Sudbury Catholic District School Board

February 8, 2010 - The Sudbury Catholic District School Board was pleased to have Jim Grieve, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Early Learning Division and Pam Musson, Director of Implementation of Early Learning visit some of its elementary schools to look at examples of Full Day Senior Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten classes as well as visit a Best Start Hub.

Elder Visits St. Benedict Students to Share Culture

February 8, 2010 - On Thursday, January 11, 2010, students at St. Benedicts participated in a traditional smudging ceremony led by Elder Vince Pawis.

Bishop Alexander CCSS - Building Bridges and School Spirit Together

February 5, 2010 - Students at Bishop Alexander Carter faced a bridge building challenge this past week in their woodshop class. The students had been given the task of building model bridges and then the completed projects were subjected to weight tests.

St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School Launches New Breakfast Program

February 5, 2010 - On Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010, St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School opened the doors to its new Breakfast Club. The program is a partnership between Breakfast Clubs of Canada, the Human League Association and the Sudbury Catholic District School Board.

Bishop Alexander Carter Launches 2010 Heart and Stroke Campaign

February 5, 2010 - Students at Bishop Alexander Carter gathered on February 5, 2010 for an assembly to launch the school's Heart and Stroke campaign. The school had several guests speak to the importance of fundraising and awareness of Heart and Stroke issues.

Pius XII Catholic Elementary School Holds Second Annual Health Fair

February 4, 2010 - Pius XII Catholic Elementary School held it's second annual Health Fair on February 4, 2010. Approximately 45 second year nursing students from Laurentian University visited the school and held different sessions for the J.K. to Grade 8 students including Winter Safety, Benefits of Physical Activity, Teeth and Oral Hygiene, Handwashing and Bullying.

Teachers Getting Even "Smarter" with the Smartboard

February 3, 2010 - The SCDSB Technology Integration Mentors (T.I.M.'s) have been very busy the last few months inservicing our teachers in Smartboard training.

St. Andrew's Grade Three Class Raise Funds for Haitian Relief

February 3, 2010 - The grade 3 students of St. Andrew School and their teacher Mr. Laurin held a bake sale on February 2nd in support of the Red Cross efforts to help the people in Haiti.

Marymount Launches Their 2010 Heart and Stroke Campaign - "Strokes for Stroke"

February 3, 2010 - Students at Marymount Academy launched the official kick off to their 2010 Heart and Stroke Campaign on February 3, 2010. The theme for the school’s campaign is “Strokes for Stroke” as the main fundraiser will involve the girls paying for a dress-down day and will be going to the Laurentian University swimming pool to enjoy an Olympic themed pool party.

Six Bishop Alexander Students Now Published Poets

February 3, 2010 - Six students from Bishop Alexander Carter teacher Lori Roy's Grade 11 English class didn't realize that by submitting their poetry assignment, they would end up as published poets in a national anthology

Traditional Elders in the Classroom at St. Andrew

February 2, 2010 - The St. Andrew School grade six class welcomed Vince Pawis and Thecla Neganegijig, both traditional Elders who work with the board at the Outdoor Education Centre in Killarney, to their school.

St. Albert Adult Learning Centre Launches Breakfast Program

February 1, 2010 - St. Albert Adult Learning Centre officially launched its new Breakfast Program on February 1, 2010 to rave reviews. Students were at the school bright and early to help staff prepare for the first day of the program.

Marymount Academy Announces Advanced Placement Program for September, 2010

January 20, 2010 - Marymount students, teachers, trustees ad guests gathered at a press conference held at the school to launch a very exciting and progressive program known as the Advanced Placement Program or AP as it is more commonly referred to.

Early Learning Kindergarten Program Open House at Pius XII

January 19, 2010 - Louisa Bianchin, Principal of Pius XII Catholic School welcomed parents and families to the school’s “Open House and Kindergarten Registration Night.” Mrs. Bianchin was especially pleased to announce that Pius XII was one of three schools selected by the Sudbury Catholic District School Board to offer the “Early Learning Kindergarten program” or ELK as it is more commonly referred to.
